Environmental Scientist

Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure is currently seeking an Environmental Scientist Portland, ME to perform field data collection and data management related tasks.
Key Responsibilities

  • Support Environmental Engineering / Scientific Staff in collecting field data and performing field testing
  • Maintain relational MS Access databases for environmental projects, querying data to generate output for client deliverables
  • Assist staff in utilizing and deploying digital data collection devices such as IOS or Android tablets
  • Perform routine data maintenance tasks utilizing MS Access
  • Follow company safety policies and procedures, site safety standards, and permit requirements
  • Oversee soil borings and groundwater monitoring well installations, collect soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air, and soil gas samples
  • Collect data in complex field situations with supervision and document field activities
  • Prepare components of site investigation reports including work plans, data summaries, calculations, tables, figures, charts, drawings and report text
  • Perform routine data maintenance tasks utilizing MS Access
  • Utilizing digital data collection devices, PC tablets, and GPS methods
  • Support office staff with mobile device applications (data collection forms)
  • Communicate with project team members and other stakeholders to define data needs, project requirements and desired outputs
  • Compile, manipulate and refine geographic data from a variety of sources including but not limited to field observation, digital aerial photographs, existing maps and online data sources
  • Compile, manipulate and refine environmental data from a variety of sources including but not limited to field measurement devices, mobile application field forms, laboratory test results
  • Perform regular quality control checks of GIS and non-spatial databases to ensure data integrity with minimal supervision
    Skills / Qualifications

    • BA / BS in Environmental Sciences or related field
    • 1 to 5 years of experience in environmental sciences or related field
    • Relational database management experience
    • Knowledge of online data resources
    • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint)
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Access relational databases
    • Familiarity of environmental data collection and analysis
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Proficiency using ESRI suite of software (e.g. ArcGIS) desired
    • Knowledge of scripting languages (UBA, Python, etc.) helpful
    • Resourceful and self-motivated
    • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours, and willingness to travel frequently as required
    • Must pass drug screening, background check, and physical exam
    • Must have a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record in accordance with Company’s driving policy
      Physical Demands

      • Ability to remain on feet for extended periods of time either stationary or walking
      • Field activities may require working in unfavorable weather conditions, including heat and cold
      • Ability to lift 50 pounds
