WGME CBS 13/WPFO FOX 23 , in Portland, Maine, is a trusted brand providing Maine families with local news, weather, sports, entertainment, and social media content. We help grow the most talented people in television. You have the opportunity to work with a team filled with spirit, passion and imagination. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Engineering Technician! This role will support our Engineering department on its daily computer and network operations. This individual will be responsible for installing and maintaining video, audio, and other equipment associated with television broadcasting. Equipment types that this role would be responsible for, include server-based record and play-out systems, non-linear editors, production switchers, routing switchers, MPEG encoders, decoders, automation, news room computer systems, data networks, and broadcast transmission equipment. Must be available to work overnights, weekends and holidays.

Your responsibilities include:
Maintain and/or repair satellite receivers, cameras, switchers, graphic systems, audio equipment, routers, automation/editing systems, intercoms, monitors and display systems

Experience operating master control switcher and associated equipment. Fill in vacation relief for master control operators

Consult and communicate with engineering management and other engineers on technical issues as required

Perform all technical work to engineering standards and practices

Provide PC/Mac hardware/software support, on-site installation, servicing and repair of computer workstations

Provide support for the technical needs of the News department

Assist with video equipment set-up and maintenance

Assist with Transmitter, Master Control, LAN and WAN related hardware/software maintenance

Develop knowledge of facility specific IT needs and assist in supporting these systems

Perform physical inventory of equipment

Master Control coverage Saturday and Sunday evenings and filling for MC Operators

Qualifications:
Self-starter, able to multi-task, and work efficiently without direct supervision

A team-oriented attitude and dedication to quality

Be able to work effectively with other departments receiving and communicating instructions via telephone, e-mail, or in person

Be able to read and understand technical materials

Able to set priorities under pressure of deadlines and concentrate for long periods of time

Must be flexible to accommodate shift changes, including extended hours

Working knowledge of broadcast station operation

Familiarity with Microsoft, Mac, AVID software/hardware and Linux operating systems and a PLUS

Knowledge and competency in core hardware and computer system technologies

Proficiency in troubleshooting problems, responding quickly under pressure

Excellent communication skills

Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent experience in IT, Electronics, or computer related field a PLUS
