EMS Educator (Life Safety Educator), Grade 25

The Life Safety Educator provides instruction for the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Training Academy Paramedic and EMT, and participate in program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
The employee will develop and deliver lesson plans and evaluation tools based on curriculum learning objectives; deliver both didactic and laboratory instruction; and plan and coordinate the training and educational activities.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing and delivering instruction either at the Training Academy or other off-site clinical settings.
  • Supervising the activities of course participates during instructional time.
  • Planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating paramedic educational program offerings.
  • Working with the EMS Captain or Program Manager to provide feedback, develop student evaluation tools and develop learner remediation plans.
  • Fulfilling institutional educational program administrative requires, to include calculation and submission of grades, maintenance of program, course, and student/participant records; and preparing and submitting data and reports.
  • Participating in activities that promote the Paramedic Institute, to include recruiting students.
  • Performing other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
:

Experience
:
Three (3) years directly related EMS experience plus three (3) years of experience teaching EMS related courses.

Education
:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor?s degree, plus successful completion of an EMS Academy-approved EMS instructor course.

Equivalency
:
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

LICENSE
:
National Registered EMT- Paramedic and Maryland Paramedic licensure

Preferred Criteria

PREFERRED CRITERIA:

Experience delivering instructional training to adult learners.

2.
Experience developing curriculum content materials related to public safety.

3.
Master’s degree

4.
Maryland Instructor Certification Review board (MICRB) ALS certification or equivalent

5.
3-5 years teaching experience directly related to EMS

All applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be reviewed and rated by subject matter experts based on the Preferred Criteria.
Based on the results of Preferred Criteria evaluation, applicants will be rated and placed on the Eligible List as either “Qualified” or “Well Qualified.” The highest rated applicants will be placed on the Eligible List and may be considered for interview. Employees meeting minimum qualifications who are the same grade will be placed on Eligible List as a “Lateral Transfer” candidate and may be considered for interview.
Note:
In the event there are 10 or fewer minimally qualified candidates, all will be placed on the Eligible List as Qualified and Hiring Managers will be required to interview a minimum of five candidates. For “seniority” jobs (as shown in Article 8), resumes will be reviewed and rated by subject matter experts based on the Preferred Criteria.
