Community Coordinator

The Parks, After School, Recreation and Community Services Department (PARCS) is currently recruiting for a Community Coordinator. Under general supervision, the incumbent performs public relations and community contact duties; coordinates special events; conducts special studies and provides administrative assistance within the department /division.

This position within the PARCS Department is responsible for marketing department-wide programs, activities, events; developing collateral materials, social media postings, website content, attending and coordinating community meetings/presentations, creating surveys and compile department-wide statistics/metrics.

Additionally, the individual will develop standards for outreach materials, create PARCS Brand(ing), serve as the Department Information Officer working with all divisions and as liaison with 621-City and FresGo.

This is an unclassified position in which the incumbent serves at the will of the department head.

Pay,Benefits, & Work Schedule

The City of Fresno offers an attractive and competitive salary and benefits package. The salary for Community Coordinator is dependent upon qualifications. The current annual salary range is $46,884 up to $65,976. The employee benefits package, as noted below, is subject to change and includes:

  • Retirement: Fresno City Retirement System; reciprocity with other public California systems. The City’s pension funds are among the best funded public systems in California. The City does not participate in Social Security.
  • Health Insurance: City contributes toward the current monthly premium for medical, dental, and vision for employee and dependents.
  • Flexible Spending Account: IRS 125 Plan for health/dependent care.
  • Deferred Compensation: 457 plan available.
  • Administrative Leave: 60 hours per fiscal year.
  • Annual Leave: 20 days per year of annual leave with cash out provision.
  • Holidays: Ten (10) City-observed holidays annually, plus birthday and one (1) personal day per year.
  • Life Insurance: Equal to annual salary; premium paid by City.
  • Long-Term Disability: City pays premium for 66.66% of monthly salary up to $7,500 per month after 30 days.

The Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public administration, political science, business administration, mass communications or related field; and two years of administrative support experience which emphasized public and community relations. Additional years of qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

The ideal candidate will also possess the following attributes:

  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills

– Knowledge of/Proficient use of social media – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram

  • Proficient use of Illustrator/Adobe Products for use in developing collateral materials

The ability to speak, read, and write in English and Spanish is preferred.

Additional Requirements

Qualified candidates certified for consideration must successfully complete a department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint process.
