JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Smeal College of Business is seeking a qualified individual to provide financial advice, data analysis and reporting to our Executive Education Program as well as our Center for Supply Chain Research, and Institute for the Study of Business Markets. The position will also be the lead in providing strategic direction, leadership and comprehensive insight in an overall reporting strategy and solution for the College. The individual will work with program directors to monitor and manage appropriate categorization of income and expenses for various funds. Provide guidance on trends and opportunities for efficiencies, including workflow, and assure long term sustainability of resources. Ensure monthly income and expense reports are completed and delivered. Assist with yearly and long term spending plans and budget funds accordingly based on approval; act as primary point of contact between the Finance Office and assigned units and attend unit level meetings on a regular basis as requested by directors; gain sufficient knowledge of assigned areas to provide emerging trends and assist with benchmarking as requested. The position holder will assist the Financial Officer in approving and tracking expenditures as needed and reporting as requested and assist with monthly high level reporting for the Dean of the College; interpret analytical results and assess potential impact to the College and provide recommendations and/or take action based on results; assist in building a comprehensive reporting and business intelligence strategy and help clients identify, establish and prioritize key performance indicators and operational data needs as assigned; create and maintain internal databases for reporting in consultation with others to meet planning and decision making needs and make recommendations for long term reporting strategies. This individual will also be responsible for providing training on reporting solutions, data analysis, interpretation and utilization and assure a cohesive and comprehensive reporting/business intelligence solution. The individual will report to the College Financial Officer but have dotted line responsibilities to the assigned units.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree or higher with strong communication and analytical skills. Candidates should have advanced experience with Microsoft Excel and functions, and individuals with experience in BI tools such as SAP, Oracle, Tableau, PeopleSoft, Workday, and PowerBi will be highly desirable. Candidate should have an understanding of relational databases and knowledge of coding to extract data effectively. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate’s competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs.
