Bibliographic Assistant VI

The C.V. Starr East Asian Library seeks a Bibliographic Assistant VI. The incumbent will perform a full range of activities to order, receive, and physically process Japanese materials in all formats and accompanying invoices. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Ordering Japanese language materials in all formats, including preorder duplicate checking, creating purchase orders in local system, and forwarding orders to vendors.
  • Receiving, unpacking, and processing the received materials by stamping, security-taping, and writing call numbers on current issues of serials, etc.
  • Processing invoices, and claiming unfilled orders.
  • Preparing materials for binding and preservation. Update related records in CLIO as needed.
  • Processing gift and exchange materials; sending gift acknowledgments as needed.
  • Maintaining and reporting monthly statistics.
  • Assigning, revising, and training student workers.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9 am – 5 pm

Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

  • Advanced knowledge of Japanese language and culture. Language test will be given if interviewed.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and flexibility with job assignments.
  • Strong computer and word-processing skills including familiarity with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to work independently for long periods of time after initial training.
  • Ability to lift boxes of library materials up to 40 lbs., push loaded book carts, and carry materials up and down stairs.

Special Instructions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the Hepburn Romanization System.
  • Previous acquisitions and/or cataloging experience in libraries.
  • Experience with OCLC Connexion.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
