AWS Support Engineer – EC2

Do you like helping U.S. Intelligence Community agencies implement innovative cloud computing solutions and solve technical problems? Would you like to do this using the latest cloud computing technologies? Do you have a knack for helping these groups understand application architectures and integration approaches, and the consultative and leadership skills to launch a project on a trajectory to success?
AWS Elastic Cloud Compute (EC2) is looking for engineers passionate about operations and a desire to learn and be curious about Amazon’s internal services. EC2 team members own the scaling and management of services across AWS regions including EC2, CloudWatch, Elastic Load Balancing (ELB), Simple Queue Service (SQS), Simple Workflow (SWF) and AutoScaling.

In this position you’ll get to:

  • Work with other engineers to build and manage massively scaled services
  • Build tools to automate common tasks and processes
  • Track the health of our services, identify and fix problems on complex systems with massive scale
  • Collaborate with some of the leading minds in distributed systems

Basic Qualifications
This position requires that applicant selected be a U.S. citizen and obtain and maintain a TS/SCI US Government clearance with polygraph. TS/SCI eligibility is not required to start; however, the applicant selected will be subject to a Single-Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified national security information. Applicants with a current SSBI, SBPR, or PPR, may be eligible for crossover in accordance with ICPG 704.4.

  • Minimum of 1 year building and running systems for Internet-facing services
  • Minimum of 1 year basic tools experience in a Unix-like environment
  • Minimum 1 years experience with TCP/IP network troubleshooting and administration
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team
  • Strong sense of ownership and urgency

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related field
  • Experience in a 24×7 production environment, esp. one based on Linux
  • Experience with SQL scripts and database administration preferred
  • Development of systems management and administration automation in an advanced scripting language Perl, Python, or Ruby
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills at all levels, from application to network to host
  • Experience with performance testing and tuning
  • Automation or monitoring framework experience, deployment or development
