Compensation: $53,000 – $67,000

Overview:

Hours: After training, this position will cover night and weekend hours (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, 6:00 P.M.- 6:30 A.M. and every other Sunday remote on-call). Depending on staffing levels, hours may return to day shift after an average period of 6-12 months. When working overnight hours, this position does receive shift differential pay. Typical work week of 37.5 hours. If this position works over 40 hours, it is eligible for overtime pay.

The Data Center Operations area is responsible for designing, implementation and maintaining Securian’s batch application schedule, file transfer system and storage support. We are currently looking for a motivated individual who wants to make a difference in their work and prepare themselves for future opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement and maintain the enterprise job schedule for internally developed and purchased applications.
  • Responsible for ensuring data integrity across all platforms of Securian’s production environment.
  • Using your technical expertise, drive and implement problem solving solutions through interaction with IT Application Developers and technology support staff.
  • Collaborate with Application Developers and IT technology support staff to implement and document modifications to Securian’s production environment in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Collaborate with Application Developers, IT technology support areas, and business units to backup and restore business data with attention to quality, detail, and timeliness.
  • Develop and implement techniques to streamline, automate and increase workflow efficiencies.
  • Support Securian’s various database management systems including (SQL Server, Oracle, IMS, and DB2). Develop a clear understanding of the internal structures of these database management systems and how they are used in the production environment.
  • Collaborate with Application Developers, business staff and external clients to design, implement and troubleshoot file transfers using the corporate Electronic File Transfer solution.
  • Proactively collaborate with Application Developers, Data Center Operations Services, and IT technology support areas to prevent future abnormal job failures and to design innovative processes to support production processing.
  • Own, manage, and resolve production incidents through the incident management process.
  • Responsible for providing on-call support for night, weekend, and holiday shifts on a rotating basis.

Requirements:

  • Understanding of Securian’s production application systems capabilities and awareness of all IT technical support functions.
  • Decision-making ability to quickly choose and implement a course of action to resolve problems while minimizing adverse impact.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure a well-coordinated production environment and the proper development and maintenance of technical support procedures.
  • Strong ability to multitask/manage production environment while effectively prioritizing and executing tasks to successful completion in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communication skills to explain technical issues to technical and non-technical associates, provide training, offer recommendations and/or evaluations, and provide consulting services to a variety of technical staff and end users.
  • Ability to manage, resolve, and own technical production issues.
  • Four-year college degree in Computer Science, MIS or Math.
