Responsibilities

NBC News is seeking an Accountant to join the Finance team in supporting the News and MSNBC lines of business. This position will report to the Director, Corporate Accounting.

Job Duties

  • Support financial close processes by monitoring NBC News, MSNBC and CNBC trial balances, facilitating the account reconciliation process, and preparing reporting deliverables for the NBCU Financial Reporting team.

  • Facilitate financial operations processes within the News Group, including Sourcing, Accounts Payable, and Payroll.

  • Assist in the development of News Group policies and monitor adherence to existing Company policies and procedures.

  • Ensure proper business controls are in place and assist in the implementation of new controls and procedures when necessary.

  • Facilitate the monthly reporting and audit of T&E, P-Card, Black Car and wireless spend within News Group.
  • Work closely with business unit finance teams at NBC News, MSNBC and CNBC to develop process improvements within their areas.

  • Develop ad hoc reporting to support the financial close and monitoring processes.

  • Assist in special projects, which could include the implementation of new financial systems.

  • Research and provide guidance to on accounting topics as needed.

    Qualifications/Requirements

    Basic Qualifications

  • Recent college graduates with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting are welcome to apply.

  • Candidates with degrees in Finance, Economics, etc. MUST have a minimum of 2 years of experience in an accounting function.

  • Must have general ledger experience and knowledge of GAAP.

  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite products – particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Prior experience in accounting and/or financial management.

  • Experience with SAP Accounting / Business Warehouse Software, a plus.

  • Industry experience preferred.

  • Excellent project management skills, ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast paced environment.

  • Positive and professional attitude, team player.

  • Excellent attention to detail and willingness to take initiative; self-starter.
