Writer and Editor

The Global Talent Management (GTM) team in Human Resources is looking for a highly driven and talented individual to join the Communications team to help develop global customer training, educational materials, and overall customer communications. As part of the GTM Communications team, the writer/editor will serve as a quality control resource for materials that communicate our talent management processes (promotions, reviews, compensation, etc.) across GTM. The individual in this position will have a firm understanding of our audience and work collaboratively with the other teams across GTM as well as internal stakeholders such as product management, HR leadership, public relations teams, managers, and employees across Amazon. Ensuring the “Amazon voice” is used consistently in our content is critical to success.

Specifically, this person will be responsible for the following:

  • Working with internal subject matter experts to understand, write, and edit relevant, technically accurate communications in different formats (e.g., white papers, wikis, online, email, presentations, etc.).
  • Ensuring a consistent, Amazonian voice and tone across all GTM content.
  • Creating, refining, and owning GTM references and style guide.
  • Training others on how to write in plain language.
  • Copy editing a broad spectrum of communications that include: company-wide emails, internal website content, wiki pages, internal blog content, training content, survey language, process manuals and job aids, etc.
  • Participating in content management efforts, process development, and quality governance in support of team success, while also working independently on multiple projects.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, marketing, or other related field.
  • 3+ years of work experience in fields such as technical writing, technical editing, or product marketing.
  • Excellent writing, grammar, and editing skills.
  • Proficient in AP Style.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications such as Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Excel.
  • Proven success writing effective process documentation or internal communications or sales and marketing materials such as newsletters, case studies, white papers, PowerPoint slides, and email copy.
  • Amazing attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure, deadline-driven environment.
  • Awesome verbal communication and interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to self-direct, multi-task, and prioritize assignments.
  • Great project management skills.
  • Experience with web development including HTML, CSS, JavaScript or XML.
  • Experience creating content for translation and localization.
  • Experience developing and executing strategic communications plans for large internal audiences.
