Responsibilities:
The University of Johannesburg is actively recruiting for a Waiter to support the School of Tourism and Hospitality in its commercial units, which provide food and beverage services to both university community and external clients and guests

The waiter will oversee the effective execution of service and of the operation as a whole. He/she will work closely with guest relations and floor manager to support and enable the various activities as well as manage the various administrative functions of the office. He/she will act as the first point of contact with people from both inside and outside the University.

He/she must be a dynamic, flexible and self-motivated person who will provide inter alia the following services:

Events Management

Planning, arranging, publicising and coordinating meetings, seminars, workshops, functions and conferences as directed by the Operations Manager.

Student Training (for the students training in the unit)

Preparing student schedules and rosters.

Providing practical training and guidance to students.

Responding to queries clients and prospective guests.

Assistance to the Operations Manager

Perform ad hoc duties as and when required by the Operations Manager.

Financial Administration

Manage and order supplies.

Manage smooth running of events and restaurant.

Communication

Ensuring effective information processing by sourcing, receiving, disseminating information from and to appropriate people and organisations.

Sourcing and collating information by establishing tools and procedures for managing information.

Preparing relevant reports, presentations and external communication.

Ensuring continuous liaison with appropriate people.

Attend to telephone, email and personal enquiries promptly, and pass these on to appropriate members of staff.

Communicate in a positive and effective manner with staff, students, co-workers, parents and/ visitors.

Schedule appointments and maintain the HOD calendar.

Schedule meetings and take minutes.

Maintain the general filing system of all correspondence in the department.

Perform other administrative duties as assigned (including, but not limited to, placing purchase orders, compiling information in reports, arrange functions, coordinate travel arrangements for members of staff)

Collate information from staff for submission to Faculty

Minimum Requirements…

Matric/Grade 12.

A minimum of 3 years’ working experience in a similar or comparable role.

A minimum of 1 years’ administrative experience within a hospitality environment.

Food and Beverage control skills or experience.

Proven computer skills: must be fully conversant in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and usage of Internet.

Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

Excellent time management skills.

Ability to use own initiative and work independently

Strong analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to anticipate problems and take appropriate action.

Well-groomed, punctual, courteous, pleasant and helpful.

Ability to work under pressure.

Recommendations:
Knowledge of University systems, structures, policies and procedures.

Experience in banqueting set-ups and restaurant service.

Experience in dealing with guests.

Working knowledge of micros systems.
