Valuation Analyst

Key Focus/Scope

The Valuation Analyst will assist in ensuring that the John Hancock Funds’ securities are valued accurately. The Valuation Analyst will also support the fair valuation process, specifically relating to the research, documentation and reporting of fair valuation recommendations. The incumbent must have strong technical and analytical skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written), and be detail oriented. The incumbent must be able to manage multiple tasks while working under strict time deadlines. Experience with Microsoft Access, Reuters, Bloomberg, is preferred. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent college graduate to join a global organization.

Responsibilities

Research potential fair valuation items and obtain recommendation from portfolio managers and research analysts

Complete weekly review of fair valued securities

Track and follow-up on critical dates relating to fair valued securities

Compile Pricing Committee and Board reporting

Research and understand local market practices relating to valuation issues

Utilize technology to improve efficiencies within the Securities Valuation Group

Complete daily reviews of fund accounting agent exception reporting

Daily, supply fair valued prices to fund accounting agents

Participate on projects, as needed

Experience

An understanding of investment management industry and mutual fund administration is recommended.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business or related field required.

Knowledge of foreign and domestic securities markets is a plus.

Knowledge & Skills

Candidate should have strong securities knowledge.

Excellent quantitative skills, highly preferred.

Candidate must be highly proficient with Microsoft Excel; proficiency with Microsoft Access, preferred.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to identify, evaluate and make recommendations with respect to both internal controls and accounting issues with respect to security valuation

Strong interpersonal skills including ability to work with and influence John Hancock’s sub-advisers, as well as the John Hancock Pricing Committee.

Candidate must have strong organizational and oral/written communication skills. Must be able to set priorities and meet deadlines.
