Summary

The Toolmaker will be responsible for manufacturing and repairing tooling, or to perform major rebuilding of existing production tooling to engineering prints in accordance with developed standards and production requirements. The Toolmaker will also make job specific fixtures and gauges, and are required to do precision machining & grinding. The successful candidate will be committed to the highest level of integrity, trust and responsibility; bring a hands-on approach to day to day operations, and exhibit strong leadership, planning and management skills.

General Duties

  • Troubleshoot, manufacture spare components and repair tools to adhere to design and production standards.
  • Build new tools to meet engineering design criteria, piece part quality and production requirements.
  • Modify tools to achieve and improve production volumes.
  • Modify tools per customer revisions.
  • Review product quality and make necessary improvements.
  • Tooling component sizes, fit, form & function are verified by Toolmaker.
  • Fabrication of QC gauges, machine parts, which require precision grinding and assembly.
  • Ensure documentation and records are maintained in the ERP system.
  • Attend training activities, train and help others as required.
  • Participate in continual improvement teams as required.
  • Perform any other related jobs to maintain production given by the Toolroom Manager.
  • Proactively review designs, verbal instructions, and other materials that you work from; in the spirit of preventing mistakes or eliminating possible problems that could occur.
  • Accurate recording of time including time-clock, job activities, and other data entry.
  • Compliance with relevant policies.

Education

  • Graduation from high school or receipt of equivalent degree (GED)
  • Completion of 4 years of apprenticeship in Tool & Die making.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years experience in building stamping dies.
  • Minimum 5 years experience using manual toolroom equipment.
  • Knowledge and experience with using all types of measuring tools (Micrometer, Caliper, toolmakers scope, etc.)
  • Knowledge of English & Metric systems of measurement.
  • Basic knowledge of OHSA regulations TS – 16949 quality systems.

  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations.
  • Self-motivated with a desire to learn and continuously improve performance.
  • Basic understanding of metallurgy involved with tool and die steels.
