Territory Development Specialist

Responsible for: The development of profitable Personal Lines and Commercial Lines premium production, communication and relationship development for assigned agency group utilizing all forms of available technology (phone, webinar, video, email, etc.) Assigned to those agents with smaller, PL and CL Edge oriented books of business, or those agents geographically difficult to handle. All sales calls are telephonic, virtual sales calls.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Identify and develop a flow of new opportunities that fit our profile and exceed our production goal
  • Understand specific industry characteristics of each segment (PL, Small CL, and other CL) including key needs and buying patterns and use effectively in positioning our products, platform, and services.
  • Develop annual agency flow and production goals.
  • Spearhead agency/territorial review process.
  • Work with assigned agents to develop sales and business development plans for targeted segments.
  • Monitor territorial/state plans taking corrective action where necessary to insure territory is meeting profitable growth goals.
  • Own responsibility for managing assigned agency plant.
  • Establish strong producer relationships through high frequency of telephonic customer contact, clear knowledge of company strategy and joint sales planning.
  • Work collaboratively with regional and corporate staff to remove roadblocks and administrative obstacles to ensure agents see Utica as easy to do business with.
  • Develop a deep knowledge of industry practices, market conditions and competitor information to position the agency to maximize business development.Align Utica strategies and support (tools, initiatives, resources) to continually increase market share.
  • Exercises discipline and focus around flow management to ensure adequate flow and acceptable mix of business to meet agency and company growth and profit objectives.
  • Educate agents on product offerings, forms, company procedures and other materials.
  • Develop and monitor agency incentive programs and monitor pipeline activity.
  • Train agents on Utica systems, including Express Rate and @ Your Service.
  • Ability to develop newly appointed customers into profitable producers.
EDUCATION: Four year college degree in general studies/liberal arts or business administration or equivalent business experience
EXPERIENCE: Minimum 3-5 years of applicable industry experience (sales, marketing, claims, UW, etc.)
COMMUNICATION:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; including formal and informal presentation skills
  • Strong consultative and negotiation skills; ability to effectively persuade and influence others
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Requires a basic understanding of P&C commercial lines risk qualification with an insurance carrier or agency
  • Ability to comprehend carrier/agency reports/metrics while recognizing trends and being able to use the data for fact based conversations that advance the company’s position within agencies
