(Temporary Medical) Patient Access Representative – UMHC Plantation

UMHC-SCCC-Plantation 1 has an opportunity for a (Temporary Medical) Patient Access Representative. The incumbent performs full registration ensuring that insurance is verified and all information is correct. Verifies patient demographic and insurance information and edits information as necessary. Obtains copies of insurance cards, driver license, and HMO referrals/authorization when applicable. Assures all demographic insurance information is accurate, complete and up to date on patient’s screen. Explains Consent for Treatment, Financial Liability and HIPAA (if applicable) to patient; obtains signatures. Determines the appropriate questionnaires required by individual physicians and instruct patient to complete, prior to their visit. Prints an arrival label and instructs the patient to appropriate waiting area. Schedules follow-up appointments as indicated by the physician adhering to Patient Appointments Policies and Procedures. Edits, Cancels, No-Shows patient appointment accurately with a zero % margin of error rate. Follows Patient Appointment guidelines pertaining to overbooking, scheduling, appointment types, etc. Reconciles all vouchers placing them by providers. Delivers Vouchers to designated area. Answer incoming telephone calls to the clinic. May serve as a team lead or subject matter expert to other employees. Monitors patient flow and communicates to Clinic Supervisor of any issues, including wait times, in the registration area throughout the day. Scheduling all types of exams with attention to specific anatomical descriptions for the Department of Radiology Imaging Services (i.e. left knee, abdomen, and brain). Coordinates the sequence of multiple exam orders to ensure proper prep and timeliness of exams. Obtaining information from the referring physician’s as required for the exam, such as: obtaining the Department of Radiology order form via email or fax prior to scheduling an appointment. Verify that the radiology order form obtains patients name, DOB, MRN, specific type of test(s) ordering, patient’s diagnosis (ICD-9 code), brief description of patient’s signs and symptoms, ordering practitioner’s signature (Stamp signatures will not be accepted), and unique National provider identification number (NPI). Verify and update demographic information in UChart. Request the financial class, and inquire into status of authorization (HMO). Verify the diagnosis by checking the Health-works ABN module for UMHC and ADIC Medicare recipients for proper coding and medical necessity. For any denials which Medicare coverage is required — the physician must be notified of the denied diagnosis code for the exam ordered and/or the non-covered procedure. The ABN will be filled out by the on-site Insurance verifier, and notification will be given to the patient prior to their appointment. If the patient agrees with the terms – this form will be signed by the patient at registration. Notify on-site insurance verifiers via email of any same day or next day appointments. Inform patient of any pending authorization and deductible requirements on their behalf prior to having the exam performed. Inquire patients medical history and document in Uchart (i.e. inquire if patient has history of renal failure/disease, diabetic, chemotherapy, allergies, etc). Notify appropriate parties if patient requires labs or premedication for allergies.Review exam requested in virtual manual to ensure accuracy of scheduled appointment. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum requirements are: High School Diploma required. One (1) year experience in a healthcare or customer service related setting preferred. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.

Patient safety is a top priority.
