Position Summary:

Assist with design, development, and engineering activities on new and existing systems. Perform tests, simulations, and analysis. Recommend design improvements and changes. Troubleshoot system issues. Research, evaluate, and apply new development methods. Develop recommendations for management regarding implementation of system/services additions and/or enhancements. Specialization in two or more of these areas Storage/Backups,

Virtual Infrastructure, Microsoft Servers, or RHEL servers.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Specialization in RedHat environments, including administering, deploying, scripting and troubleshooting.

Serves as a Tier III escalation point for Systems and Applications teams. Primary on the CAS /Shibboleth environment.

Creates and maintains configuration documentation for all servers and participates in a process for reviewing and updating documentation.

Defines, determines, and recommends system requirements and specifications as they relate to complex projects, ensuring system hardware and software are compatible and ideal for a given situation.

Provides, reviews, and understands documentation related to all aspects of new projects, initiatives, or solutions, including but not limited to: installation, maintenance, upgrades, patches, and support.

Plans and coordinates server operating systems RedHat and applications installations as required.

Creates specifications for enterprise hardware and software purchases, identifying approaches that leverage resources and provide economies of scale.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience Required

Requires a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems or

related field plus 3+ years of relevant experience in the chosen field or 7+ years

of equivalent work experience.

Requires the application of expertise in system administration to achieve

results.

Requires 1+ year higher education experience.

Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results.

Qualifications/Experience Preferred

Prefer at least one year of operations experience and three to four years project work.

Solid project management skills and previous experience working directly with senior level business and IT executives.

Proven leadership, teamwork, and client management experience.

Experience working in data centers (racking, cabling, etc.) a plus. Familiarity with ITIL concepts and ability to follow existing Problem, Change, and Incident Management procedures.

Scripting experience.

Ability to manage the operational policies of the various environments (VMWare, Windows, Solaris, OS X and RedHat) at UCO .

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Must possess strong customer service and interpersonal skills along with strong analytical, organizational, and collaboration skills.

Must be able to work independently or with specialized groups, maintaining a courteous attitude.

The successful candidate will possess excellent written and oral communication skills including: the ability to facilitate team interaction and client meetings effectively; the ability to explain technical terms in everyday language.

Ability and willingness to complete several concurrent tasks in a fast-paced, detail-oriented, multi-tasking environment where Service Delivery is of utmost importance.

Ability to manage multiple projects from conception to implementation within budget and with various university units.

Must understand and be able to work in a highly technical environment and be held accountable on a daily basis for the IT infrastructure and required project deliverables.

Other Physical Demands Summary:

Repetitive movement of hands and fingers – typing and/or writing. Frequent standing, and/or sitting. Occasional walking, stooping, kneeling or crouching. Reach with hands and arms. Visually identify, observe and assess. Talk and hear.
