System Engineer

This position is for a Senior Engineer who will work on the deployment, administration, and maintenance of Splunk infrastructure and knowledge objects (searches, field extractions, macros, commands, views, dashboards and applications). The Senior Engineer will also work with a diverse user community to provide onboarding and presentation of new data sources. The Senior Engineer should have in-depth knowledge of Linux/Unix commands, web services, SQL, big data architectures, and statistical analysis. The candidate should be self motivated, have the ability to multi-task, coordinate, plan, and implement project activities on CenturyLink’s data network in an environment that requires reprioritizing work based on business demands. The candidate should have the ability to systematically develop routines to automate repetitive functions in at least one object-oriented programming language.

Requirements

Must have Associate’s Degree or the equivalent in training and experience

Must have 7+ years data network operations, systems administration, systems programming, or other substantive experience/training

A minimum of 5 years required experience must have involved installation, provisioning, and commissioning (including configuration) of the management/services of new applications

Experience administering complex multifunctional network and/or customer-facing tools and systems

Experience with Splunk or other comparable software utilized for searching, monitoring and analyzing machine-generated big data

Background in multiple computer environments (i.e. Linux/Unix, macOS, Windows)

Strong knowledge/experience with Python/Perl and Unix shell scripting

Solid written and oral communication skills including the ability to facilitate meetings

Provide technical application and functional consulting to the organization

Adopts and adheres to CenturyLink’s code of conduct and guiding principles

Consistently demonstrates the ability to work both independently and within a team environment

Demonstrates accountability for own actions and deliverables

Effectively identifies, documents, and escalates risks and issues

Demonstrates understanding of the business unit functions in a corporate environment

Able to recommend alternative approaches considering project requirements

Provide on-call and weekend support as required by business needs

Preferred

Certified Splunk Administrator or Power User

Experience with Apache Hadoop and/or other comparable big data processing software

Experience with database administration and information retrieval

Experience with establishing standards for deployment practices

Experience with developing and securing standards for large enterprise networks

Knowledge of ATM, Frame-Relay, Metro-Ethernet, Internet, and DSL networking with multiple vendor platforms

Leadership experience demonstrating self motivation to work independently with a sense of urgency
