System Administrator / Senior Support Engineer

The principal function is to apply specialist knowledge of Linux System Administration to manage close to 50 Linux servers and VMs mostly in South Africa, but also elsewhere in Africa and South America. Also, to support our wide range of applications deployed among our existing and future customers, locally and internationally.

This involves the following tasks, among others:

• OS, network, and application configuration of new systems.
• Maintaining and contributing to system standards.
• Improve the automation of tasks where possible.
• Managing system security.
• Apply OS and application patches where required.
• Capacity and performance management.
• Research and recommend innovative approaches to improving efficiency.
• Provide system and application support.

Preferred

• A high degree of interest/experience in Linux is desired.
• Shell scripting ability for system administration.
• Linux system administration (RedHat/Centos, Apache, MySQL/MariaDB, Bash, Python).
• Knowledge of networking protocols and technologies (TCP/IP, SOAP, HTTP, XML, RADIUS)
• Ability to learn quickly and work independently.

Nice to have

• A tertiary Engineering or Computer Science degree.
• Experience in the support and management of high availability software and systems.
• Knowledge and experience with technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, Redis and MongoDB.
• Knowledge and experience with technologies such as HAproxy, NGINX, Prometheus, Grafana, Chef, VMware, KVM, Xen.
• Knowledge and experience with data centre technologies such as Fibre Channel, iSCSI, Firewalls, Routers, Load Balancers.
