Supervisor of Engineering Design

Responsibilities and Qualifications

Vista Outdoor is seeking an Engineering Design Supervisor to add to our team to support the Manhattan, MT location. The Engineering Design Supervisor will be responsible for directing and coordinating the design of new products for Blackhawk and various Vista Outdoor internal business partners. Prioritization of new products to meet customer demands and managing budgets. Maintaining good internal and external customer relations, and seeing projects through from design to finished product.
Responsibilities:
Lead the Design Engineers in developing new products for each catalog year
Assign and schedule projects
Work with Design Engineers to determine product Design Review/Release due dates
Oversee product specifications to meet customer expectations
Control product configuration and technical data package
Determine materials selection
Establish and maintain product development business process
Prepare capital equipment budget for product engineering and direct its usage
Prepare and manage operating budget
Conduct performance reviews and recommend salary adjustments and promotions
Manage prototype shop
Develop and integrate new technologies and processes
Manage product integration activities with other SEG companies
Provide technical support to the Sales, Customer Service, and Operations
Direct product development activities for tactical group
Direct New Product Technical Data to Marketing
Assist GPL Director in achieving Net Sales and Gross Margin metrics for the GPL as per FY Business Plan
Enable GPL team to launch projects on time as per FY Launch Plan
Lead prioritization of projects through tool room for GPL and communicate to GPL Director every 3 weeks
Manage capital budget for Tactical GPL & program budget for engineer team as per FY Plan
Participate in key innovation initiatives–new product ideation, consumer insights studies, annual new product problem solving/innovation challenge–to provide insights for developing new products
Lead the integration, on-boarding, and day-to-day management of all engineers to include Montana and Idaho locations.
Assist product and project managers with the management of StageGate (New Product Development) process and projects, as needed, to ensure the timely delivery of new or upgraded products.
Education and Experience Requirements:
B.S. Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related field.
5+ Years Engineering and industrial experience
2+ Years Management experience
Thorough and competitive knowledge of current and evolving design engineering theory and
Desired Qualifications:
Strong problem-solving skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to prioritize and organize multiple projects
Microsoft Office proficiency
Experience with SolidWorks and Moldflow
Preferred Strong 3D solid modeling proficiency
