This is a professional staff, part time, seasonal position with the City’s Parks & Recreation Department. All applicants must be able to commit to 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday from May 31, 2017- August 4, 2017. He or she is primary responsibility is ensure the overall safety, effectiveness, orderly, efficient and success camp activities each day. This may include, but is not limited to: set-up, teaching, support, counselor relief for a short period of time, and serving as first line supervisor for summer counselors. This person will be organized, energetic, and helpful. They should be comfortable working with and teaching children.

Examples of Work:

Set- Up- Ensure counselors have all the necessary supplies for their activities, set-up and break down rooms, prep for snack and lunch hours, oversee camp operations and activities

Teaching- Assist with large group activities and lead detailed or difficult crafts.

Support- Cover counselors during their breaks, act as the main contact while the Director is away, administer first-aid, enforce safety procedures and respond in emergency situations.

Ensure staff stay on task, follow camp rules and expectations. Handle camper disciplinary issues, discuss incidents with parents and report to director.

Act as the second in command to the Camp Director- they will work closely learning the planning and behind the scenes aspects of running a camp program.

ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES:

• Ensure the safety, well-being and personal growth of campers

• Plan, coordinate and facilitate a wide variety of activities for campers

• Supervise and interact with children while maintaining a safe and fun environment

• Explain activities to a group of 30 or more children

• Take the initiative to clean up, solve problems and take charge when necessary

• Supervise staff and camper behavior

• Interact with parents during pick-up and drop-off

• Clean the facility and play areas after each activity

• Be a positive role model for campers and their family

• Lead children on planned field trips

Experience and Education Requirements:

High School diploma required. At least two years of college in the field of parks, recreation and tourism science is strongly encouraged;

• Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation, Teaching or related field is recommended;

• At least 1 year of comparable experience required
