INTRODUCTORY STATEMENT: The Office of the Attorney General, Department of Legal Affairs (OAG) is a pre-eminent, constitutional office, which serves as the chief lawyer to all state agencies and provides legal protections for Floridians against fraud and through the enforcement of the state’s laws. The OAG, is a cabinet agency in the executive branch of Florida state government.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Three years of secretarial or clerical work experience. College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for each year of the required work experience. Vocational/technical training in the area of secretarial science or office/business studies can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for each year of the required work experience. A high school diploma or its equivalent can substitute for one year of the required work experience.

JOB SUMMARY: This position is in the Capital Collateral Division. This position performs varied legal and administrative functions for capital appeals attorneys. Candidates must possess reliable skills and abilities, be able to effectively prioritize and organize assignments and work under pressure. Candidate must be a self-starter capable of efficient high productivity, litigation support and attention to detail. The position requires filing, typing, editing for proper grammar, proofreading, scanning, phone skills, calendaring and setting up meetings, and processing and tracking legal documents.

Knowledge of correct spelling, punctuation and grammar usage is required. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively and follow written/verbal instructions. Good organizational skills, including the ability to sort files, records and/or other materials alphabetically, numerically and categorically, and to meet deadlines is required. Candidate must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others and work well within a team atmosphere during high pressure situations. Ability to multitask, use computer software for entering of basic data, lift file boxes weighing approximately 25 lbs., push & pull a cart, bend and reach is also required.

Prefer candidates with a minimum of four years of experience working under the direction of one or more attorneys and a working knowledge of Florida court processes and procedures.
