Staff Accountant / Bookkeeper

Affiliates Risk Management Services, Inc. (ARMS) is New York City-based nonprofit organization administering comprehensive insurance management, professional and clinical education, and risk, quality, and patient safety services for 700+ ambulatory health centers nationwide that focus on delivering women’s reproductive healthcare.

The Staff Accountant / Bookkeeper will support the accounting and finance team with a variety of administrative, bookkeeping, clerical, accounts payable and accounts receivable and financial functions associated with the operations of ARMS.

  • Responsible for accounts receivable and accounts payable including, but not limited to, receiving and processing vendor and customer invoices using Microsoft Dynamics GP; processing check deposits and check requests, coding payments, and printing checks; maintaining accounts payable files
  • Processes bank deposits online
  • Reconciles credit card statements with employee expense reports
  • Maintains petty cash
  • Prepares the President and CEO’s expenses quarterly and submits to Finance and Benefits Manager for review
  • Communicates with vendors, customers and different departments in ARMS to resolve outstanding payments and clarify issues related to accounting policies and procedures
  • Prepares quarterly grant reports
  • Creates journal entries and updates financial schedules to assist with Monthly closing
  • Updates fixed asset schedule
  • Prepares and maintains National Insurance Program (NIP) invoices and billing schedules
  • Prepares schedules for annual audit and assists auditors in obtaining data
  • Assists Finance department with annual budget
  • Reconciles investment roll forward schedule based on reports downloaded from investment custodian’s website
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

An Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
  • Experience working with an Accounting / Finance department in a nonprofit setting
  • Computer literacy, with experience with Microsoft Office suite
  • Great Plains experience strongly preferred
  • Strong organizational, written / oral communication, interpersonal skills
  • Ability to be flexible

  • Willingness to work within a wide scope of accounting responsibilities

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $55,000.00 to $65,000.00 /year
