POSITION TITLE: Sr. Systems Engineer – Wireless Telecom Application

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time

OFFICE LOCATION: Seattle, WA

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

Design, configure, provision, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and document emergency services (SMS911) and commercial Location Based Services (LBS) and related applications running on UNIX platforms within the TCS Service Bureau. Provide operational expertise to internal and external customers for the above areas. Serve as tier III escalation for TCS’s service offerings.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Provision, maintain and integrate highly available SMS911 systems and networks.
  • Provide technical expertise for future TCS services in the telecommunications sector.
  • Stay abreast of technological trends in telecommunications.
  • Manage vendor relationships for telephony hardware and software.
  • Manage upgrades of hardware and software for deployed SMS911 and other related systems.
  • Provision, maintain and integrate PDE and application software.
  • Provision, maintain and integrate commercial and SMS911 software.
  • Troubleshoot service impairments and maintain accurate documentation of related trouble tickets.
  • Write and execute test cases for inter-operability testing (IOT) with customers.
  • Support the IP Network Architect, Database Architect, and UNIX Systems Architect.
  • Participate in application and system design engineering of new products and upgrades.
  • Coordinate and deliver training to lower support tiers and internal customers.
  • Tekelec Eagle hardware and software administration is a plus.
  • Provide 24×7 on-call support on a rotating basis.
  • Work independently on projects as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Experience with IP based applications running on UNIX platforms.
  • Experience with SS7 Networking technology.
  • Familiarity with SnapTrack’s PDM and related tools helpful.
  • Proven history of analyzing situations and employing creative solutions.
  • Perl/Shell scripting ability is a plus.
  • Outstanding written/verbal communication skills as well as excellent negotiation skills.
  • Ability to excel in a team environment that emphasizes total cooperation and mutual respect.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of undergraduate degree in a technical discipline and 5 years’ experience (or Master’s degree and 3 years’ experience) supporting applications in a UNIX environment.
  • Knowledge of database technology (Oracle, TimesTen, MySQL) a plus.
  • Hands on experience with telephony protocols such as SIP & SS7 and Diameter
  • Familiarity with various IP networking protocols including TCP/IP, UDP, SMPP, MSRP, HTTP and IPv6.
