Sr. Software Development Engineer – Kindle B2B

Kindle is an inventive research and development division of Amazon that design and engineer high-profile consumer electronics. Starting with the best-selling Kindle e-reader family of products, we have recently produced groundbreaking devices like Fire tablets, Fire TV, and Amazon Echo. What will you help us create?
The Role:
We are the team responsible for planning sales strategies, and fulfilling Amazon devices offline worldwide. We use a wide range of technologies and techniques to build solutions allowing the offline business to take Amazon products from a factory to the hands of our customers, managing those items the entire way. This team touches a large cross section of the Amazon business space from fulfillment to accounting, and we are looking for passionate, hard-working, and talented Software Development Engineers who have experience building innovative, mission critical, high-volume applications. You will have an enormous opportunity to make an impact on the design, architecture, and implementation of cutting edge products used every day, by people you know.
In this role, you will:
Own system architecture and development for product initiatives and feature development related to Amazon offline fulfillment and our retail partnerships.
Investigate, prototype and deliver innovative system solutions.
Work with diverse teams throughout Amazon to deliver mission-critical systems.
Improve the after-sales customer experience for Kindle device customers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field, or relevant work experience
  • Equivalent experience to a Bachelor’s degree based on 3 years of work experience for every 1 year of education
  • 4+ years professional experience in software development
  • Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design
  • Computer Science fundamentals in data structures
  • Computer Science fundamentals in algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis
  • Knowledge of, at least, one modern programming language such as C, C++, C#, Java, or Perl

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience taking a leading role in building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Experience with distributed computing and enterprise-wide systems
  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience mentoring junior software engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
  • Experience influencing software engineers best practices within your team
  • Hands-on expertise in many disparate technologies, typically ranging from front-end user interfaces through to back-end systems and all points in between
