Sr. Performance Test Engineer

The Sr. Performance Test Engineer will support Five9’s NFT objectives. The candidate must be familiar with standard software development and quality processes, methodologies, and tools. Must have a proven track record of very high technical competence, which includes strong coding, analysis, troubleshooting and scripting skills. Must possess strong technical leadership abilities and ability to mentor peers and staff. The best person for this role must be able to develop high quality detailed NFT strategy, test plans, results artifacts, identify and create detailed performance test cases, test scripts that map to appropriate requirements and design specifications. The Sr. Engineer will be responsible for developing and executing extensive application performance tests and analyzing performance of infrastructure stack and applications including in a production environment., in addition to providing recommendations for optimizations.

Key responsibilities:
Able to understand and articulate non-functional requirements properly, making each NFT testable and able to quantify

Write performance test plans, test case scenarios, develop workload models and metrics to be collected during non-functional testing

Excellent understanding of transactional and volume testing, with ability to identify which protocol is best to use for building scripts and connecting to test environment interfaces

Ability to develop performance test scripts using open source (e.g. Jmeter) and industry standard (e.g. HP Loadrunner) tools

Review the performance test scripts, plans and scenarios

Review test environment to verify that the required components are available for a performance test run

Knowledge of different types of performance strategies and tests and when to apply them to gain useful information on system performance characteristics and patterns

Experience in executing various types of performance tests and collecting necessary metrics

Ability to troubleshoot issues encountered during testing to the code/system level

Collect and organize performance test metrics into performance reports and graphs

Write performance test results analysis documents, highlighting key findings and recommendations, particularly as they relate to all NFR’s

Prepare and deliver preliminary and executive summary reports

Report status to test management and project team stakeholders

Adhere to all established performance testing standards

Requirements:
Knowledge of multiple application infrastructures and strong communication skills are required for this position

Possesses a strong background in performance testing and analyzing multi-tier applications, and web applications

7-10+ years’ experience in the performance testing and engineering discipline

5-7+ years’ experience with open source and/or HP quality and performance test toolset (Jmeter, ALM, QC, LR, QTP, and Performance Center)

5-7+ years’ experience with various monitoring technologies (SiteScope, BMC, Perfmon, Opnet, Tivoli)

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field required, Master’s degree preferred or equivalent work experience

Proven ability to perform profile/baseline, load and stress testing

Proven ability to drill down into results and complete deep dive root cause analysis

Proven experience and best practices in requirements management, test case development, test analysis and reporting results

Excellent communicator, proven individual contributor, team-oriented
