Special Assistant

The NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services is looking for a talented, versatile coordinator with strong project management skills to be the Special Assistant to the Commissioner. The Special Assistant will provide project management, analytical and technical assistance for planning, coordinating and implementing interagency projects. He/she will also provide project management, analytical and technical assistance for the tracking and monitoring of the Commissioner?s commitments. The job responsibilities for the Special Assistant include, but are not limited to, the following: ? Work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to ensure that priority projects are advanced;? Coordinate briefings and memos to prepare the Commissioner; ? Provide analytical assistance to the Commissioner, including quantitative and qualitative data analysis;? Draft briefs and create project plans for new policies and initiatives; ? Serve as a liaison within lines of services to track and monitor progress of initiatives and commitments; ? Help to coordinate, support and organize the Commissioner; and ? May also be responsible for one or more discreet projects and be expected to manage the project(s) to completion.

Minimum Qual Requirements

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with a major in Public Administration, Personnel Administration, Business Administration or in a related field, plus at least four years of experience in Business Administration, Personnel Administration, Public Administration or in a related field, including at least eighteen months of managerial or executive experience; or2. Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” or “2” above. A Master?s Degree in a field described above may be substituted for one year of related experience

Preferred Skills

? Significant experience preparing high-impact visual presentations; ? Exemplary experience in research, writing and editing skills; ? Ability to capture and amplify a distinctive voice; ? Ability to communicate effectively, target and adapt messages to specific stakeholders while sustaining a consistent message; ? Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with staff at all levels; ? Strong understanding of and ability to implement institutional protocols with diplomacy and commitment to confidentiality; ? Experience in government preferred; ? Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully, both verbally and in writing;? Strong analytical skills and attention to detail; and ? Ability to research complex issues and synthesize information

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
