Sonographer (WEEKENDS ONLY)

Columbia University Medical Center’s Fertility Program in Midtown Manhattan has an immediate weekend opening for an experienced Ultrasound technologist/sonographer to join their growing team. You will be a leading part of the team working closely with patients to help guide them in their dreams of building a family. This position is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic sonographic examinations. Scans performed will be mainly limited follicle and some early OB transvaginal exams. Schedule is weekends 7:30am to 11:30am. The successful candidate must be ARDMS certified in OB-GYN ultrasound with experience in infertility ultrasound a plus.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Perform necessary types of ultrasounds, primarily follicle, and transvaginal ultrasounds.
  • Use cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.
  • Integrate diagnostic sonogram with patients’ history, medical records, and laboratory results, and adapt to examinations.
  • Present and prepare preliminary ultrasound findings to attending physician for final report.
  • Consistently and accurately complete documentation pertinent to the ultrasound examinations.
  • Assist the physician and other team members in providing excellent patient care.
  • Maintain mature, professional, and effective working relationships with all physicians, other staff, and outside customers.
  • Explain the procedure to the patient, record medical history consider necessary and prepare patient for testing.
  • Ensure proper operation of equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; reporting equipment failures/calling for repairs; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Maintain related supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies.
  • Conform to applicable HIPAA, billing compliance, Quality Assurance, and safety guidelines.
  • Related duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Program.
  • ARDMS certified in OB-GYN ultrasound.
  • RDMS eligible graduates for CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education) accredited program must be registered in OB/GYN within 12 months of employment. ARDMS credentials must be maintained yearly.
  • OB/GYN experience for a minimum of one year.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service background.
  • Proficiency in computers.
  • Ability to operate ultrasound equipment efficiently, evaluate sonogram to acquire diagnostic information, communicate diagnostic information to physicians, follow departmental protocols and guidelines, and communicate effectively with patients and healthcare team.
  • Available to work weekends from 7:30 am to 11:30am and weekends ( as needed)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in infertility ultrasound.
