Software Engineer – Betterment For Business

What you can expect to work on in this role
Betterment for Business is an award-winning 401(k) service that provides personalized investment advice for all participants. We’re looking for Full Stack Engineers to join our team and create tools that help people save for retirement. As a Full Stack Engineer, you will work side-by-side with user experience and product management to craft our consumer and enterprise applications. Part of being a member of this team is a love for building products you’re proud to share with your friends and family. We strive for intuitive, delightful user experiences. You’ll need to leverage the entire software stack to help us realize these goals, and you’ll be a part of a team that’s tackling difficult questions of scale, architecture, and interaction. You will have the opportunity to work on many parts of Betterment for Business and the work you do will have a direct impact on the business’s success.

Tackle tough software challenges

• Work side-by-side with our investing team and our design team to deliver financial advice with an award-winning user experience
• Reinvent the 401(k) space by building next-gen tools for both participants and plan sponsors
• Partner with our retail, data and investment teams to bring Betterment’s technology to a brand new market

In order to be effective, you should

• Have experience in at least one server-side language such as Ruby, Java, C# or Python. We build our apps in Ruby on Rails
• Have experience building interactive web applications using modern JavaScript frameworks
• Have a passion for software engineering, and for creating what doesn’t exist
• Know how to make the tradeoffs required to ship without compromising quality
• Agree that automated tests are a worthwhile investment
• Thrive in a startup environment

Engineering spends much of its time with the tools above, but we strive to always choose the best tool for the job.
