The Oracle Compute Cloud team in Cape Town, along with our sister teams across the United States, Canada and India, is responsible for developing the key Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) software that powers Oracle’s cloud solutions. We are looking for enthusiastic, hands-on software engineers at all levels who can

Minimum skills and experience required:

· An ability to demonstrate logical thinking and initiative in taking on and completing tasks.

· Demonstrable coding expertise. Proficient in one or more programming languages (E.g. Java, C, C++, Python etc)

· Good problem solving skills.

The following skills and experience are valuable in our environment:

Senior candidates are expected to demonstrate more of these skills than less experienced candidates.

· Participated in teams that have had a collaborative approach to systems architecture as well a high bar for quality and performance.

· Strong understanding of virtual machine technologies a plus.

· Solid networking and storage systems skills.

· Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills.

· Extensive Linux experience, both command-line and system level knowledge

· Advanced understanding of cluster architecture expected for senior candidates.

· BSc in Computer Science or relevant experience.

Detailed Description and Job Requirements
Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will assist in defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, debugging or designing of software applications or operating systems. Provide technical leadership to other software developers. Specify, design and implement modest changes to existing software architecture to meet changing needs.

Duties and tasks are varied and complex needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.
