Software Development Engineer II

As a core member of Concur’s Minnesota R&D Center, you will be designing and building the next generation of our end-to-end solutions spanning Concur’s product line. We run small teams with a purpose, so that our engineers have full visibility and ownership of the project, including architecture, design, development, and operations. Our developers work hard and have challenging problems to solve, but they go home at the end of the day and enjoy their evenings and weekends.

With a customer base over 30 million end users and year-over-year growth exceeding 50% our features are key components of Concur’s product delivery and aggressive growth.

In the first 12 months you will be:

• Developing features at all levels of Concur’s technical stack: You’ll build solutions from end-to-end—standing up new services, coding business logic, improving the UI, and working on everything in between.
• Expanding a high-performing team: You’ll help to shape a high-performance development team that responds to opportunities across our business. You and the rest of the team will learn, adapt, and develop your own way of working at Concur.
• Owning the software lifecycle from design to delivery: You’ll contribute to all phases of the development lifecycle including high-level architecture, technology evaluation, development, deployment, and monitoring.
• Delivering features in the cloud: You’ll create scalable features and services that utilize Concur’s internal cloud as well as other commercial cloud platforms such as AWS.

Position Requirements

In order to accomplish this, you will need:

• Experience with object-oriented programming languages: Have proficiency with Java/J2EE or other object oriented programming languages such as C#, C++, etc. Preferably Java on Unix/Linux OS.
• Experience storing/retrieving data: Have proficiency with database technologies, including strong knowledge of SQL and ORM (Hibernate, etc.) Ideally have an understanding of storage concepts/technology. Knowledge of NoSQL databases is a plus.
• Experience working with cloud infrastructure: Have experience allocating and configuring instances and deploying solutions in cloud providers such as AWS.
• Experience with developing web applications: Have proficiency with JavaScript, HTML, and related web technologies. Knowledge of rich internet UI technologies like ExtJS, AJAX, React, Bootstrap, or JQueryUI is a plus.
• Ability to create/maintain services: Have proficiency with services using SOAP, REST, and Java and open source frameworks (Spring, etc).
• Agile Development: Have a solid grounding in Agile Development (Scrum, XP, etc.), Continuous Integration and DevOps concepts (automated deployments, monitoring/alerting, etc.) is a plus.
• As a Collaborator: Be a team player, highly collaborative, and an effective communicator who can communicate with technical and non-technical audiences.
• As an Individual: Have a result driven personality, high enthusiasm, energy, curiosity, and a sense of fun.
• Experience: 3+ years of relevant industry/academia experience in software development and full product lifecycles. Should have a BSCS, BSEE, or equivalent years of work experience. Ability to pass a background check.
