Our team is building software for new messaging-based contact channel for multiple Expedia brands. It’s an Automated Travel Assistant (ChatBot) that greets the customer, answers simple questions and routes to the correct solution or live Customer Service Agent. You will create software solutions that use state of the art technologies such as machine learning (ML) and natural language understanding (NLU) to build Expedia’s most innovative customer experience solutions.

As a Software Development Engineer on our team, you will collaborate with other experienced software engineers to drive improvements to our technology, design and develop new services and software solutions, and build and track metrics to ensure high quality results. Your solutions will provide the ultimate customer experience needed to anticipate and resolve customer’s questions using an automated assistant. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with business partners, leadership and other software developers, UX designers, influence and drive product vision and lead the design of our systems.

Responsibilities

You will design and implement highly scalable, and reliable applications and components

You will translate functional specifications into logical, component-based technical designs

You drive innovation and implement new ideas to solve complex software problems

You will develop back-end code in Java and front-end code in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

Partner closely with architects, product leads, and developers

Be an advocate for great code quality and supportability

Ability to work collaboratively with team members in different time zones and cultures

Use SCRUM, test-driven development, and continuous deployment to deliver projects

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field

2+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrated proficiency in object-oriented design

Strong coding ability and software development experience in Java or C/C++

A consistent track record of delivering and operating large-sized internet-scale software systems

Strong problem solving and analytical abilities

Experience with designing, building and deploying complex, scalable, highly available systems and software products

Technical competency in developing high-performance, scalable web applications

A deep understanding of both front-end and back end technologies including Java, SpringBoot, JavaScript, HTML, Handlebars, RESTful APIs, JSON

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Eager to learn and learn fast, enjoy a dynamic environment
