Skilled Trades Worker

This position is within the Renovations department of Facilities Management Services.

Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:45 p.m.

Duties: Skilled Trades Workers will perform renovation tasks which include electrical, carpentry and painting. Should have general renovations knowledge and skills to perform various tasks. Specific duties will vary depending on the trade area the employee is assigned to work in.

Tasks assigned include but are not limited to:

Will perform semi-skilled tasks (in various trades) and/or assist other skilled crafts personnel. Employee will clean work areas, sweep, collect trash, assist in demolition activities, move supplies and equipment, and perform routine renovations.
Clean and prepare surfaces to be painted using sandpaper, steel wool, scrapers, soap and water.
Operates power tools, heavy machinery such as forklift, boom lift, etc.
Paint interior and exterior walls and ceilings with brushes, rollers and spray guns.
Perform electrical work in tandem with an electrician by performing demolition, installation of electrical fixtures, installing conduit, pulling wire.
Performs light carpentry work, repairs locks.
Perform minor renovations.

Qualifications: Technical or vocational degree in plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, or electrical trade area; or a high school diploma or GED and one year experience in plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, or electrical trade area. A valid Georgia driver’s license is required.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:

A successful candidate should possess:

General painting knowledge, method and procedures.
Knowledge of basic principles and practices of, electrical, painting, carpentry and other related trades.
Able to work in confined spaces, lift or carry heavy items more than 50 lbs.
Valid Georgia driver license.
Ability to operate power tools, heavy machinery such as forklift, boom lift, etc.
Able to work in confined spaces, lift or carry heavy items more than 50 lbs.
