Server Administrator I/II

Implements and maintains small to medium computing services and storage environments, and writes specification documents for these systems. Assists with departmental projects.

  • Responds to support tickets from the Help Desk within specified timeframes, uses troubleshooting tools and procedures to resolve issues, and maintains defined service levels.
  • Complies with procedures for Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) and North American Electric Reliability Corporation Critical Infrastructure Protection (NERC CIP) regulations.
  • Participates in disaster recovery drills.
  • Assists with server and storage conversions, patches, and upgrades.
  • Assists with system tuning to optimize system performance and maintains defined service levels.
  • Assists with installation and maintaining infrastructure services (e-mail, dynamic host configuration protocol, backup, print, patches, etc.).
  • Assists with maintaining technical documentation related to software/hardware on multi-user networks as well as training materials for end users.
  • Participates in a 24X7 on call rotation.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
  • Job Qualifications

    Education and Experience Requirements:

    Service Administrator I:

    • This position requires a four-year degree from an accredited college or university, with emphasis in information technology and two years of experience in providing server and storage support in a networked environment.
    • In the absence of a degree four years of related experience, including two years in providing server and storage support in a networked environment is required.

    Service Administrator II:

    • This position requires a four-year degree from an accredited college or university, with emphasis in information technology and four years of experience in providing server and storage support in a networked environment.
    • In the absence of a degree eight years of related experience, including four years in providing server and storage support in a networked environment is required.

    Preferred Experience:

    • Windows or Unix/Linux server administration

    Required Skills:

    • Administration experience in system programming, backup, monitoring, infrastructure services and high availability environments.
    • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).
    • Ability to work effectively in a diverse work environment.
