Senior/Lead Software Engineer – New Core Dev Tools UX

Do you want to fundamentally improve the everyday workflow of your fellow software developers? The AWS Developer Tools team is looking for a senior/lead user experience oriented software engineer that is passionate about transforming the dev tools experience for all AWS customers. Our team owns building a new, modern, core user experience and dev tools workflow that spans across the entire AWS Code Services suite (CodeCommit, CodeBuild, CodePipeline and CodeDeploy). We are building a new team that is crafting a bold vision that will unify these tools by building a modern, beautiful, highly usable centralized UX that starts in the browser and then expands into the IDE and CLI. We need a senior/lead engineer that will be able to drive this product forward and be a mentor and technical leader for the team’s other software engineers in the process.

On this new team you will play a broad and significant role, being a key voice with the rest of leadership and other engineers, in the definition, vision, design, roadmap and development of a fundamentally new user experience that spans all of these developer tools from the beginning to the end. The team is still forming, so this is your chance to be engaged very early in the process as we set out revolutionizing the user experience of our entire developer tools suite. As a leader on this team, you will be sought out for owning cross-team collaboration, driving the technical decision-making process, mentoring other engineers and, sharing in prioritization and decision making for the team along with your manager. On this team:

· Lead 8-10 other junior and mid-level software engineers in the design, implementation, and operation of a variety of projects in the space.

· Shape the AWS vision for how developer tools operate in the cloud and drive how developers want to interact with them.

· Create new user flows from the ground-up working closely with other developers as your core customers.

· Use your creative talents to build a new, unifying, world-class user experience that utilizes the latest generations of frontend UX platforms and technologies.

· Deeply understand and work with a variety of developer tools across the spectrum of the software development lifecycle.

· Iteratively develop, continuously deploy, and get new to test your new ideas quickly.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field

• Equivalent experience to a Bachelor’s degree based on 3 years of work experience for every 1 year of education

• 4+ years professional experience in software development

• Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design

• Computer Science fundamentals in data structures

• Computer Science fundamentals in algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis

• Proficiency in, at least, one modern programming language such as C, C++, C#, Java, or Perl

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of the latest UX frameworks and interest in user interface design

• Knowledge of the latest developer tools across the software development workflow (coding, building, deployment, operations, task tracking, real-time communication)

• Experience taking a leading role in building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers

• Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations

• Experience with distributed computing and enterprise-wide systems

• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

• Experience mentoring junior software engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

• Experience influencing software engineers best practices within your team

• Hands-on expertise in many disparate technologies, typically ranging from front-end user interfaces through to back-end systems and all points in between
