Senior Systems Engineer

SUMMARY: Ventiv Technology is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support a number of externally facing solutions within the Risk Management industry. The successful candidate must have in-depth knowledge of servers, storage, operating system installation and management, vmWare vSphere, Microsoft Operations Manager, application installation and management, and infrastructure design in addition to soft skills such as clear verbal/written communication and time management. Additionally, we seek a candidate with knowledge and experience working with IBM’s Cognos application.

The Systems Engineer is expected to work in conjunction with the various business groups to resolve systems and application issues as well as architect solutions for new projects. The operating environment is very fast-paced and will require strong prioritization & time management skills. Due to the global nature of our offerings, the position will participate in an on-call rotation and regularly scheduled after-hours maintenance activities in addition to serving as the initial point of escalation for all systems related issue. Some travel will be required including travel to destinations requiring a valid passport.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• 3+ years of Server Administration Experience
• Working Tickets/Change Controls
• Troubleshooting & root cause analysis of application/infrastructure incidents
• Architecting appropriate technical solutions to meet business requirements
• Installing, configuring & maintaining servers/storage in production & non-production environments
• Configuring appropriate monitoring & responding to infrastructure/application-related alerts
• Configuring & maintaining backup & Disaster Recovery solutions
• Deploying application upgrades across multiple environments
• Respond to On-call duties 24×7
• Utilizing hardware vendor support
• Ensuring that all devices are appropriately secured and audited
• Creating and maintaining technical documentation
• May require heavy lifting (50lb or more) on occasion.
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline or equivalent experience

• Linux & Windows Server Administration
• vmWare vSphere Administration
• Server Hardware Installation & Repair
• Fundamental Understanding of Networking & Security
• Knowledge of various shell scripting languages
• Application Administration (Java, Tomcat, IIS & more)
• IBM Cognos Administration
• Server/Application Architecture & Tuning
• Basic understanding of SQL
• Capacity Management
• Operating System & Application Patching
• Implement & Maintain Best Practices:

• Compliance with standard security audits
• Experience with MS Operations Manager and Site 24×7 a plus
