Senior Sun/Solaris Systems Admin (UNIX)

Job Description (but not limited to):

• Install, configure, patch and upgrade Solaris UNIX operating systems.
• Provide UNIX system analysis in the use of UNIX utilities, including vi, AQK, Practical Extraction and Reporting Language (PERL), C, C++, JAVA etc. and communication protocols.
• Monitor assigned system’s events, logs and system health using DISA Enterprise tools.
• Troubleshoot hardware software, storage and operating system failures and system incompatibilities.

Perform error diagnosis, error remediation, root cause analysis and document findings.

• Provide account management support; create, modify, remove and monitor account activity.
• Research and resolve backup failures; collaborate with the DECC Ogden storage administrators for
• Provide support transitions between the IT lifecycle process and support of all required/applicable

environments (development, test, stage, production, etc.).

• Provide system administration which includes general system administration; kernel configuration and

tuning; Z file system and UNIX file system, file system management and configuration; performance

tuning, analysis and benchmarking.

• Provide shell scripting and automation tasks as need, which includes installation and configuration of

cluster technologies and shared file systems.

• Provide virtualization support, specifically creating, deleting and managing logical domains, global and

non-global zones.

• Configure and manage SAN environment including SAN switches using the latest versions.
• Manage communication interfaces between UNIX servers and the communications infrastructure

(firewalls, routers, etc.), including bonding, static routes, tcpwrappers and iptables/nftables.

• Provide support for communication protocols used between International Business Machines (IBM) equipment, Linux systems, Hewlett-Packard (HP) systems, Solaris, Web servers, various switches and routers, and the Non-Secure Internet Protocol Router Network (NIPRNET) / Secret Internet Protocol Router Network.
• Provide configuration and management to support large Oracle databases and applications on Solaris servers, to include kernel parameters using all versions.
• Provide support of UNIX systems such as Solaris, Linux, AIX and HP-UX using the latest version.
