Senior SQL Developer

Job Description

Looking for strong SQL Server resources who are experts in SQL and SQL MS BI Stack.

Requirements:

  • Well versed in MS SQL and BI stack tools – our team believes that this person needs to be a PRO @ MS SQL.
  • Minimum of 5yrs experience delivering ETL and data/reporting solutionsand data warehousing.
  • Will be responsible for design and delivery of Microsoft SQL Server stored procedures for a data warehouse.
  • Will also be required to build automation/orchestration for the entire set of transformations.
  • Self-starter (minimal guidance) with excellent communication skills, able to elicit requirements directly from business resources.

Position Summary

This position is primarily responsible for developing, tuning and refactoring data solutions to support business applications and analytical tools. Includes some database administrative duties along with development and design roles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Support Data Architect in designing data solutions for analytical and operational needs in conjunction with business analysis personnel

Develop, tune, and refactor SQL databases and database objects, ETL processes, and reporting and analytics solutions, to support business needs

Identify and suggest areas in existing data solutions that can be improved, assist in planning and implementing identified improvements

Work with application developers, project managers, business stakeholders, and QA to develop database solutions that meet business requirements

Document datastreams, and database and ETL objects

Database and ETL optimization and tuning

Knowledge-share with team members and perform peer code review to ensure efficient database code

Some availability during non-business hours to resolve system issues as needed

Ensure adherence to coding, documentation, solution, and source control standards

Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong T-SQL, SSIS, and SSRS programming and debugging skills is highest priority

Experience developing successful database solutions and troubleshooting as needed

Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills

5+ years of experience in all phases of SDLC and working within development teams including project planning, estimating, application architecture, programming and testing

Experience with Microsoft development tools and technologies including: SQL Server 2014 and later, SSIS, SSRS, Visual Studio, source control

Familiarity with usual office productivity tools (MS Office, email, phone, etc.)

Experience with Power BI or related tools a plus

Familiarity with RedGate family of SQL Server tools a plus

Education and Experience

This position requires a four-year degree or equivalent years’ experience working in service, or customer/ client relations. Previous experience in pharmacy, health insurance field is preferred, but not required. On the job training is provided and requires continuous product knowledge development in the areas of manufacturers, healthcare, pharmacy, PBM, company specific product offerings, and company capabilities and limitations.

Work Environment / Physical Demands

This position is in a typical office environment which requires prolonged sitting in front of a computer. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment including operation of standard computer and phone equipment. May have occasional high stress when dealing with customers/clients or in emergency situations. May require long hours on business-critical projects or in case of emergency.

  • Experience developing MS SQL Server 2008-2016 solutions, Azure SQL, or other relational databases.
  • Experience with an ETL tool such as SSIS or Informatica PowerCenter.
  • Experience with Microsoft Reporting Services 2012-2016, Power BI, or Tableau.
  • Comprehension of relational and dimensional modeling.
  • Familiarity with performance tuning techniques such as indexing and analyzing query execution plans.
  • Experience with agile development (Scrum, Kanban).
  • Service Broker knowledge would be a plus.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Computer Science or related field.
  • Ability to take ownership and facilitate consensus among a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Must be willing to collaborate and problem solve in an open team environment.
  • Flexible and adaptable in regards to learning and understanding new technologies.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
