Position:

The Senior Full Stack Developer will join the Tech Team to build our custom integration and web application systems that drive our online education services. As we improve our stack, this individual will be responsible for implementing new features and services on both the frontend and backend. We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in the software development life cycle who can mentor our development team and lead by example. We pride ourselves in writing beautiful, clean code, and are looking for a teammate who does the same.

This position will report to the Software Development Manager and is located in Chicago, IL.

Responsibilities:

• Develop new and maintain existing applications in a Java-based integration system with a NoSQL database, leveraging REST Web Services, and Citrine batch jobs
• Build new features across the whole technology stack
• Write high-quality code and unit tests that not only meet but raise the team’s development standards
• Participate in technical design/architecture meetings, evaluate new frameworks and tools, and suggest innovative solutions to our complex problems
• Monitor interfaces to integrated systems ensuring that all systems are operating as designed
• Create technical design documents to meet user stories and architecture requirements
• Manage the software testing process, which includes devising test plans, creating test cases, establishing protocols and appropriate testing environments and coordinating actual software testing
• Mentor other developers via paired programming and engaging, thorough code reviews
• Participate in the scrum process: refining and estimating user stories, planning sprints, daily stand-up meetings, demos, and retrospectives
• Provide technical input to the product management team as they prepare user stories for upcoming sprints

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field
• 4+ years of software development experience
• Mastery of languages such as Java 8, Javascript, SQL, and PHP
• Mastery of technologies such as Spring, MongoDB, Angular and other modern Javascript frameworks
• Strong background in frontend technologies such as CSS and Bootstrap preferred
• Mastery of software design principles and best practices
• Experience with version control such as Git, and familiarity with deployment technologies such as Jenkins and Docker
• Experience with Agile methodology
• Excellent communication and analytical skills
• Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, on multiple projects
• Ability to establish, improve, and enforce proper design and coding standards
• Strong leadership and team work skills
• Ability to work with a diverse team, both in-house and remote, in a fast-paced environment
• Experience with continuous delivery in a scrum environment
• Experience with higher education software a plus
