Senior EDI Data Analyst

The Senior EDI Operations Analyst is responsible for identifying and engaging all resources, both internal and external to continually improve processes to produce timely and accurate customer invoices. The Senior Analyst is considered a subject matter expert, is responsible for leading project work and facilitating solutions for critical or global billing issues, and works under limited supervision with a focus and direct impact on the customer experience. As Direct Energy Business continues to grow, the automation of data exchanges between DE Business and our External Partners is critical. Much of the current expansion in data automation involves the Utility Billed customer base (UCB) and the Internal Bill Ready (INBR) customer base. The Senior EDI Operations Analyst is a member of the DE Business Customer Operations team and is responsible for preparing the daily processing, error checking and correction of data transmissions related to electronically invoiced customers (outbound 810 transactions); receiving inbound 810 transactions and preparing outbound 820 payment transactions for INBR customers; resolving 824 error transactions; as well as preparation and testing of systems in connection with the startup of new utilities and acquisitions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or Business or a related area and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • 1 years of energy industry experience preferred
  • Proven ability to lead small to medium projects
  • An effective communicator with excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Process optimization experience preferred
  • Demonstrates expertise in utilizing Microsoft PowerPoint, Visio, Word, Excel – MS Access and SQL preferred
  • Ability to effectively multi-task and work in a pressure paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Prepare recommendations for process improvements and participate in testing/implementation with both internal and external vendors.
  • Identify, recommend, test, and implement future system enhancements to make the data management process more accurate and efficient.
  • Create and manage protocols for preventing and handling data exceptions and delays.
  • Participate as subject matter expert for any Merger & Acquisition or billing migration projects. Responsible for identifying and closing operational gaps.
  • Manage all inbound and outbound electronic data transactions that flow through the Biztalk and Filecheck software applications, assigning validation errors to the EDI Operations Analysts team as necessary
  • Work with contacts at utilities to verify and correct questionable data received from External Trading Partners.
  • Analyze and correct data transactions that fail to load into ERM or the utilities systems correctly.
  • Run and review utility transaction reports to find missing or incorrect data.
  • Ensure that the Operations team has transmitted all electronic transactions during the proper windows to ensure timely enrollment and billings to customers.
  • Maintain a current database and working knowledge of each utility’s data exchange rules, financial transaction rules, usage formats, and capacity and transmission update schedules
  • Prepare recommendations for process improvements and participate in testing/implementation with both internal and external vendors.
  • Manage the generation of 820 payments to the respective utilities for TDSP charges
  • Responsible for training the EDI Operations staff and other functional groups, such as Customer Relations and Sales, regarding the status of data, use of data management tools, complex calculations and data management software programs.
  • Ensure operational readiness for new products and new market entries by planning, recommending, testing, and implementing processes or data aggregations that produce accurate customer invoices.
  • Responsible for accurate power revenue recognition.
  • All other projects and duties as assigned.
