Senior Communications Coordinator

This position is responsible for strategic communications and marketing programs primarily pertaining to the Human Resources (HR) business unit.

Functioning in a partnership role between the Human Resources Department and the Communications and Marketing division, the incumbent will: use communications tools across a variety of media that effectively inform and engage target audiences; work closely with university communicators to ensure HR-related messaging and marketing contribute to achieving strategic goals; utilize communications avenues in concert with partner offices to enhance employee awareness of university regulations, policies and procedures; and through Human Resources communications, assist in creating a culture of inclusion and transparency that enhances employee relations across all employee groups and campus departments.

    Specifically, this position will:

  • Work with HR leadership, Communications and Marketing staff and the HR Communications Committee to develop creative, strategic, informative, and engaging communications content and campaigns, including but not limited to email, website, social media and print content, designed to motivate target audiences toward participating in and supporting key university initiatives.
  • Collaborate with HR and Communications and Marketing peers on improving programs that affect the UCF brand – but are not communications and marketing issues, per se – including employee orientations, faculty and staff communications, campus tours, hiring procedures, and more.
  • Develop ongoing strategic communication plans for informing and educating the University’s HR liaisons to foster a well-informed community that supports the university’s strategic goals.
  • Monitor and maintain constant awareness of major issues that impact (or that have the potential to impact) Human Resources and the university, and recommend communications strategies and tactics to address the issues.
  • Assist Human Resources leadership with efforts to ensure the department’s programs, procedures and other interactions with current and prospective employees feature exceptional customer service.
  • Collaborate with Communications and Marketing and Academic Affairs staff to create communications for prospective employees that support the University’s faculty hiring campaigns.
  • Develop and implement a plan to best leverage employment-centered social media sites such as LinkedIn as part of an integrated HR strategy that supports the university’s goal to attract and cultivate exceptional and diverse staff.
  • Strategically analyze the UCF HR website, recommending and coordinating redesign efforts and regular updates to enhance the user experience.
  • Assist in maintaining an environment that recognizes excellence and promotes a positive atmosphere of achievement and collaboration.
  • Assist Communications and Marketing with responses to campus crises and emergencies as needed.
  • Assist with responses to media and public records requests related to human resources.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.

    • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and five years of communications/marketing experience; or Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and three years of communications / marketing experience
    • Demonstrated strong writing and editing skills and experience
    • Demonstrated commitment to exceptional customer service
    • Experience translating technical information into easy-to-understand messages
    • Demonstrated experience using print and electronic media to communicate with large, diverse audiences
    • Demonstrated understanding of using web and social media content to achieve strategic goals
    • Ability to work independently and with initiative in carrying out responsibilities
    • Ability to work in a collegial manner with internal HR department management and employees, as well as university stakeholders
    • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects with attention to detail in a deadline-oriented environment
    • Prior experience working with Human Resources Departments
