Senior Buyer/Materials Manager

As a Senior Buyer for capital expense procurements you will:
Work directly with engineering and operations leaders to understand technical and quality specs and make recommendations that would improve sourcing outcomes;

Ensure all quality and technical specifications are met on equipment ordered;

Interface with suppliers to place, confirm, modify, and resolve issues with purchase orders;

Ensure purchases remain within financial guidelines;

Identify and pursue cost reduction opportunities with suppliers and carriers

Interface with peers and leaders throughout the organization to accommodate purchasing needs.

A typical week might include

Working with engineers or operators to understand equipment operation and specifications;

Contacting vendors to obtain price quotations, place purchase orders, and expedite purchases;

Entering new purchase orders into automated ERP/MRP system;

Negotiating pricing/deliveries to facilitate cost reduction;

Maintaining accurate databases for cost and lead times;

Advising management of critical activities relative to supply and backorder problems;

Assisting other purchasing staff with their duties;

Assisting with other relevant projects as requested.

To be considered as a candidate you must meet all of the following qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree (required) in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related programs (preferred);

Have 5-7 years of experience purchasing capital equipment in a manufacturing environment;

Be confident communicating with, negotiating with, and establishing a partner relationship with suppliers both foreign and domestic;

Have a working knowledge of engineering specifications, drawings, plans, etc;

Demonstrate strong computer skills to include Microsoft Excel, databases, communication, planning, scheduling, budgeting and forecasting applications;

Be adept at identifying new potential suppliers, or sourcing materials not currently offered by existing suppliers;

Be self-motivated, proactive, and responsive to rapid growth and change.

An exemplary candidate will also possess two or more of the following:

Experience with foreign-sourced materials and relevant language,

economic, and cultural considerations;

Engineering experience with scalable production machinery;

An extensive network of domestic sourcing contacts;

Experience as a buyer in a “start-up to expanding-international” company;

1 or more accredited Engineering or Supply Chain certifications
