Senior Budget Analyst – Medical School Finance Office

Essential Functions

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Budget Analyst provides financial analysis, reporting and budgeting services to assigned departments. As part of the Resource Planning and Analysis office reporting team, the analyst plays a critical role in maintaining the School’s General Operating accounts, preparing the School Budget, preparing the School Fiscal Year-End Financial Statements and other regular and special financial reports for School of Medicine senior management review.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists the department with the preparation of their annual budget and associated materials (including variance explanations) in the required formats as needed for review by senior management.
  • Assists departments on a daily basis as questions arise on accounting, financial procedure and financial reporting matters.
  • Prepares quarterly and year-end period closing accounting entries.
  • Prepares quarterly fiscal year-to-date and fiscal year-end financial reports and associated materials (including variance explanations) with the assistance of the department; these clearly portray the financial activities and status of the department, especially general reserve levels, for review by senior management.
  • Analyzes financial activity in the department to determine conformity with School, University, industry and GAAP procedures, policies, guidelines and standards.
  • Creates and maintains the relevant budgets and financial accounts by preparing the appropriate data or transactions.
  • Provides WUSM senior management with additional information or analyses as requested.
  • Assists with Office preparation for budget process and all period closings, and the creation of consolidated School of Medicine financial reports and supporting documents.
  • Other tasks as, on occasion, may be assigned by the Assistant Dean for Finance or other School of Medicine Officers, or the Director of Resource Planning and Analysis.
  • Required Qualifications

    Equivalent of BS in accounting or related field with training and experience in accounting and accounting analysis, designing and writing computerized reports for analysis with 3 years experience in health care accounting preferred.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelors degree highly preferred.
    • CPA and/or Masters degree.
    • Experience in healthcare, physician group, research institution and university environments.
    • Demonstrated analytical and accounting skills with attention to detail.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communications (written and verbal) skills.

    Salary Range

    The starting salary range is $62,337 – $81,078 annually.
