Senior Accountant, CTE

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

RESPONSIBLE TO: Manager II, Accounting

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for managing the Career and Technical Education (CTE) accounting department and all funds received to support our CTE Programs. They will apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports by compiling information, and utilizing appropriate accounting control procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Analyze and maintain all funds received to support CTE.

Manage the CTE accounting functions and related accounting personnel.

Prepare monthly State Division of CTE grant claims subsequent to reviewing CTE transactions for compliance and accuracy.

Analyze revenue and expenditure trends and meet regularly with CTE personnel to review and recommend appropriate budget levels, and ensure expenditure control.

Compile and analyze accounting information and related system reports for accuracy and completeness.

Perform general ledger account reconciliations and analysis on a timely basis. This could include cash accounts, receivables, payroll, liabilities and fixed assets.

Resolve accounting discrepancies by preparing reconciling journal entries.

Identify and make recommendations for accounting procedures, work flow, process improvements, and internal controls.

Prepare audit schedules and assist with the annual yearend audit.

Conduct periodic Business Office trainings for college personnel.

Test system patches and upgrades to determine impact on the financial system.

Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent education and/or experience.

A strong accounting background is required, including experience in account reconciliation, financial analysis and experience assisting with year-end audit.

A minimum of three years’ experience in the accounting field in higher education preferred.

The candidate must be flexible and willing to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.

The candidate must be detail-oriented, have the ability to maintain composure under pressure and be able to prioritize multiple tasks.

Experience in cashiering and fiscal record-keeping involving complex policies and procedures in a high-volume or a community college setting.

Prior work experience in the community college environment preferred.
