POSITION SUMMARY

Under general direction of the Manager II, Accounting, this role will perform and provide professional level, cross-functional accounting support to the College of Western Idaho’s Business Office which is analytical, evaluative, innovative and advisory in nature. Responsibilities include providing a wide variety of accounting services where the application of knowledge about the theories, principles and practices of the accounting profession, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) are used in classifying, examining, analyzing, reconciling, and reporting of financial transactions while ensuring compliance of applicable laws, rules and regulations between programs and funds. The Accountant will handle sensitive and confidential issues and may be required to coordinate special projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

  • Perform general ledger account reconciliations and analysis on a timely basis. This could include cash accounts, receivables and liabilities.
  • Resolve accounting discrepancies and prepare reconciling journal entries.
  • Verify daily cash and credit card transactions and reconcile sessions with bank deposits.
  • Perform a variety of accounting duties relating to daily deposits, research of cash and check discrepancies, resolving cashier issues, and review and follow up of third party receivables.
  • Sales tax analysis and reporting.
  • Conduct periodic Business Office trainings for college personnel and ensure required training is complete.
  • Interacts with executives, agencies, government officials, campus organizations, and the general public.
  • Identify and make recommendations for work flow, process improvements, and internal controls.
  • Gather information, research transactions, and interpret and apply policies and procedures.
  • Conveys by words and actions the values expected by CWI.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • 1-2 years minimum, 3 years preferred, experience in general ledger account reconciliation and analysis.
  • Experience in cashiering and fiscal record-keeping involving complex policies and procedures in a high-volume setting. Applicable experience in a community college setting preferred.
  • The candidate must be detail-oriented, have the ability to maintain composure under pressure and be able to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Must have excellent computer skills including Microsoft Excel
  • The candidate must be flexible and willing to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to travel to different CWI locations throughout the day
  • Prior work experience in the community college environment preferred.
