Scientist – Molecular biology/metabolic engineering

Job Description:

Antheia is hiring a Scientist in yeast metabolic engineering for the development of strains to produce valuable plant natural products for the pharmaceutical industry. The Scientist will join a small team focused on strain optimization for improved titers of target molecules.

Responsibilities include:

• DNA design and construction
• Yeast DNA transformation, strain verification and testing
• Developing and testing independent hypotheses and strain designs
• Optimization of growth and production conditions in microtiter plates
• Analyze data, document results, develop SOPs, prepare presentations and written reports, and communicate ideas and results clearly

Qualifications/Experience:

• Ph.D. or M.S. with 3+ years experience or B.S. with 5+ years experience. Formal training in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, chemical engineering or a related field.
• Proven track record of conducting independent research
• Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering methods including PCR, primer design, genomic DNA/plasmid DNA isolation, gel electrophoresis, restriction digest, cloning, DNA sequencing, strain verification by PCR analysis
• Proficiency with techniques used for DNA construction and assembly
• DNA transformation into coli and S. cerevisiae
• Knowledge of yeast metabolism and physiology including the ability to generate new ideas for engineering targets
• Culturing of microbial organisms in microtiter plates and shake flasks
