Research Staff Member

The responsibilities for the position include conducting advanced research in natural language processing (NLP) and machine/deep learning (ML) as applied to the clinical domain, applying research results to evolving commercial applications at IBM, publishing high quality papers in top-tier conferences and journals, and patenting novel methods arising out of the research. The team works in a highly collaborative environment including physicians and medical researchers in IBM and outside. The IBM Watson methodologies will be enhanced as well as leveraged in this position. The present target of our research is the longitudinal patient records and medical text, web content, and publications. Ph.D. (or about to receive a Ph.D. degree) in computer science, biomedical informatics, or a closely related field
Proven experience in developing or adapting novel algorithms to one or more significant tasks in natural language processing
Experience in publications in top-tier conferences or journals (Can be demonstrated with accepted publications)
Solid programming experience in Java, Python, Scala, or any similar languages
Experience in clinical informatics, including applying NLP/ML algorithms to clinical or medical text
Demonstrated ability to work with existing large scale software systems by modifying and/or extending them
Familiarity with UIMA, SciPy, TensorFlow, Weka, cTAKES, UMLS, and such similar platforms, packages, and resources
Statistical modeling and reasoning methods such as probabilistic graph models
1-2 years of post-doctoral experience in clinical NLP and informatics
