Qualifications

Required qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and four (4) years of web development experience with PHP, Ajax and HTML5 is required.

Six (6) years of work experience in areas of application/web/systems development with a non-related BA/BS degree.

Experience with Content Management Systems

Demonstrated experience in the development of high quality interactive websites (please do send examples!)

Experience working in a Linux environment

Experience with version control (ideally git)

Desired qualifications:

Experience with JavaScript is highly desirable.

Experience with development of social media apps for Facebook

Experience with Perl/Python/Awk/Unix shell scripting

Experience with DNA sequence/genotype data

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and customer-service skills with the ability to interact effectively with colleagues with different levels of technical knowledge.

Desire and willingness to learn and develop new skills

About the Job

Responsibilities:

Design and develop lively web interfaces for our scientific research and the results produced. Maintain and manage web interfaces.

Develop web apps and interactive tools that facilitate browsing and graphical summaries of datasets with millions of entries. The latter responsibility is relevant to Genes for Good, an online genetic study where participants can view, browse, and learn about their health, behavior, and genome. Candidates should be able to demonstrate authorization to work in the United States at the University of Minnesota by the start date.

Additional Information:

Researchers in behavioral and statistical genetics at the University of Minnesota are developing new ways to recruit and engage participants in the genetic study of health and behavior. We are seeking a web applications developer to design, develop, maintain, and manage lively web interfaces for our study participants, and for the results our research produces. The candidate will be responsible for adding interactive web front ends for research results, and for developing web apps that facilitate browsing and graphically summarizing datasets with many millions of entries.

The Department of Psychology is one of the largest departments within the College of Liberal Arts, and is a highly ranked department nationally. Currently, the department has 41 core faculty, 135 graduate students, and supports the largest number of undergraduate majors of any academic program on the UMN Twin Cities campus.
