Program Operations Manager

Willdan Lighting and Electric (WLE) is one of the nation’s preeminent providers of specialized energy, water, and resource management services to a growing list of clients that includes utilities, local and federal governments, hospitals, schools and private enterprises. WLE’s portfolio of services includes marketing and engineering, program management and implementation of energy efficiency and water conservation programs and development and implementation of information systems for the energy industry. WLE’s expertise also covers hardware retrofits, commissioning and retro-commissioning, demonstrations of new technologies, energy efficiency education/outreach, sustainability strategy and local government partnerships.

Willdan is seeking an experienced Operations Manager that supports an electric utility energy efficiency program that serves portions of Idaho, Utah and Wyoming. The Program focus is on conducting energy assessments, lighting, and other efficient equipment installation in small business sector. The Operations Manager supervises the Field Operations and Outreach and Assessment team.

The successful candidate will bring strong leadership skills and experience, advanced project management skills, and ideally industry experience. The ideal candidate will have balance of business skills that cover both general construction, operations, and sales. A creative and collaborative problem solver, the Operations Manager will tackle problems and manage competing priorities to provide excellent customer experiences and exceptional service to our clients.

The position will require some travel and depending on business schedule and occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Responsibilities:

  • Field and Warehouse Operations Management

o Directly manages 1 Field Install Operations Manager who oversees 4-5 Field Supervisors and their installation teams;

o Actively strategizes and manages productivity, process, and quality of Field Install Operations.

o Responsible for quality control for all installations performed by field staff including, install quality, building codes and safety requirements;

o Directly manages 1-2 warehouse staff and operations;

o Ensures field operations effectively supports or leads install schedule, pre/post project inspections and all associated project data entry required;

o Ensures Program compliance and health & safety compliance;

o Conducts hiring, performance reviews, and mentors new staff as needed.

  • Outreach and Assessment (O&A) Management

o Directly manages staff of 6-8 O&A team members who conduct outreach/sales and energy assessments for program;

o Actively manages, productivity, process, and quality of O&A team;

o Develops short-term and long-term outreach schedule for staff and assigns staff to various locations;

o Conducts hiring, performance reviews, and mentors new staff as needed.

Other duties and responsibilities:

  • Requires a professional appearance appropriate as a representative of Willdan and its client;
  • Learns and Maintains a high level of knowledge regarding lighting technologies and other energy efficiency building measures;
  • Collaborates with staff to share best practices and continually improve operations;
  • Provides support with marketing and sales strategy;
  • Prepare or support the preparation of weekly, monthly and quarterly reports as needed for clients and Willdan management.

Conditions of Employment:

Some field work with overnight travel required (up to 10%);

Requires passing a background check and having a clean driving record;

Review, inspect, and approve field staff project work quality and completeness;

May require climbing ladder, stairs, lifts, and getting into tight spaces;

May require lifting objects up to and over 50 pounds.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Applications (Excel, Word, etc.) with the ability to conduct basic anaclitic queries.
  • Experience in field management of multiple crews;
  • Experience in installing said technologies;
  • Preferred – Project Management Certification or similar training
  • Preferred – Five years of work experience in the electric or natural gas utility industry facilities management, Lighting, HVAC design or sales, residential, commercial, and/or industrial lighting, or conservation and energy management;

Background/strong understanding preferred in one or more of the following:

  • Experience in customer service, sales, and field work;
  • Mechanical and technical aptitude;
  • Strong customer service and communication skills;
  • Must be able to handle a wide work variety and work in a fast paced environment;
  • Must be a detail-oriented, organized, self-starter, and have an ability to prioritize workload;
  • Ability to identify and resolve project application issues with customers and trade allies;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook;
  • Strong data entry skills in entering information in tracking systems/databases;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with customers, clients and employees;
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and solve practical problems;
  • Knowledge of mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages and ratios;
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation;

Salary and Benefits: Annual starting salary is $70,000 to $85,000 based on experience and qualifications. Full benefits package, including medical, vison, dental, stock options, and 401k is available.
