Program Director

Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director, the Teen Program Director shall be responsible for the administration of the Teen Programs (Achievers, Youth in Government, Back on Track, Teen Center, Teen Camp, Teen grants) gym rentals/supervision, youth sport/art programs and related activities. Responsibilities include personnel management, budget development & fiscal management, program development, fundraising & operating procedures. This position is responsible for effective relations with members, children, parents, staff, volunteers and community contacts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university including at least 15 college/university credits in course content covering at least three of the following topic areas – child development, developmental curriculum planning, positive behavior management, health & safety, nutrition, family/community, and professionalism.
  • Twenty-four months of experience working with school age children in a group setting.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • At least two years of progressively, responsible experience supervising a staff team of at least 20 members and managing grants.
  • Demonstrate skills in fundraising, public relations, volunteer development and implementation of youth development initiatives.
  • Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR, AED and First Aid.
  • Ability to oversee multiple departments and/or levels of employees.
  • Desire and ability to work with children and teens.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Complete annual training as required by the Department of Child Care Licensing and Delaware Stars.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards

    related to the activity.
  • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise children’s activities.
  • Ability to work evenings & weekends as needed for program operations including direct supervision of teen center during evening and/or weekend hours.

Essential Functions

  • Manages, directs and coordinates the teen programs for assigned location(s) and assigned Program Directors. Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities. Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. This includes, but is not limited to, monitoring programs for daily quality and compliance, including compliance with content, program staff attendance and accountability, participant attendance and behavior, and level of interest.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Hold monthly meetings for all department staff.
  • Develops, manages and controls budgets related to the position. Ensures program operates within budget and that program fees are collected. Orders supplies and equipment as needed within budgeted amounts.
  • Manages all aspects of grant compliance for assigned programs including completing grant monitoring reports, reconciling accounts, participating in grant/funder meetings and taking corrective action when needed.
  • Coordinates all aspects of fundraising for the Achievers Program to ensure annual fundraising goal is met or exceeded.
  • Work with Membership & Program Coordinator to coordinate new registrations, transitions, terminations, and billing issues.
  • Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas. Ensures program practices and policies are consistent with established branch practices for other programs.
  • Develop and implement annual marketing and promotional plan for all program areas. Assist with the development and submission of periodic program promotion materials for branch marketing efforts. Plan and implement department specific promotional items for all assigned program areas.
  • Maintain effective and timely communication with staff and parents regarding program news, changes, YMCA involvement and other necessary information.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with state agencies, school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Provides staff leadership for annual fund raising campaign and committees as assigned.
  • Maintains proper records/department files.
  • Organizes special events for families including family nights, special events/annual traditions. Provide planning leadership to annual MLK day, Black History Month, Healthy Kids Day and Halloween at the Y events.

Salary $47,800.00 – $53,700.00
