The Program Coordinator provides support for several student success and research training programs in the Jensen Student Access to Science and Mathematics Center (SAS Center) with the intent of increasing the overall academic success of all students traditionally underrepresented in STEM. The incumbent participates in outreach and recruiting efforts, including developing recruitment materials and outreach strategies; provides face-to-face contact at outreach events with community college faculty, CSULB faculty, and other grant programs on campus. The incumbent in this position is expected to maintain up-to-date knowledge about various grant programs, and monitor program budget(s) to ensure proper and effective use of grant funds.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Familiarity with science, technology, engineering and mathematics majors/careers. Knowledge of graduate school requirements, applications procedures, and academic advisement. Ability to track and maintain database of students and alumni, and report regular updates. Ability to effectively manage all aspects of a student services program, setting goals and objectives and meeting them. Knowledge and understanding of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Familiarity with federally-funded grant programs. Ability to apply better solutions that meet new requirements. Working knowledge and experience in advising.
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university’s commitment to a “vision of excellence.”
Education and Experience
Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required. MA/MS in counseling, career counseling and student development in higher education or related field preferred. Research experience or understanding of Natural Sciences and Engineering preferred.
